MYTH: Thin People are Healthy

FACT: It is well documented and has been generally seen that it is very low weight and very high weight that increase mortality risks. The risk appears when you get to either of those two ends. Until then neither is life threatening. Add to this the fact that an obsession to be thin can often lead to eating disorders and other health threatening problems and it follows that thin is not synonymous with healthy.

MYTH: Thin People don’t need exercise Continue Reading…

Rock Hard Abs Gym Rant (Part II)

by Reena Daruwalla, guest writer for Nancy Hayssen.com

http://www.nancyhayssen.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/06/180px-expecting_mother.jpgI know I totally agree with Nancy’s Rock Hard Abs Gym Rant, posted here a few days ago. What I read in pregnancy books during both my pregnancies bears out the theories posited there. Women’s bodies are meant to have curves, they are meant to carry more fat, they need more reserves of fat, for the rigors of childbirth and the incredible pressure placed on the body creating and nurturing new life within our own bodies.

When a woman is pregnant she is often described as ‘glowing’; ever wonder why? Continue Reading…

Healthy Fats: For a Sexy You!

by Reena Daruwalla, guest writer for Nancy Hayssen.com

Are you one of those people who view all things fat with suspicion and an absolute conviction that it must be bad for you? Well, banish that thought! There are many reasons that the human body absolutely needs a requisite amount of fats which can only come from eating healthy and eating well.

And while I am certainly not saying that you should have a fat-rich diet and get fat, having a healthy , balanced diet that puts a few curves on you, is actually a good thing, because it means that you look as nature meant you to, and it also means that you are healthy because you’re eating well.

Did you know that 60% of the brain is made up of fats, the lungs need fat not to collapse, the eyes, nerves, even the heart needs certain fats for its very functioning! Now since I am not an expert at all of this stuff, I thought I would put together a reading list, which gives you some comprehensive information about which fats are good for you and why: Continue Reading…

Your Smile: A Sexy Weapon

by Reena Daruwalla, guest writer for Nancy Hayssen.com

I used to hate all the passport photos or driver’s license photos that I ever posed for; I always thought I looked awful in them. Then I realized that I could look great in those photos by the simple expedient of smiling! And sure enough this last picture I posed for, I was fully satisfied with, simply because I was smiling in the picture.

I really think that a smile is something that makes anyone instantly sexier and more attractive. It is like a secret sexy weapon that you can use at will to floor just about anyone. Continue Reading…

Corsets: The Curvifier!

by Reena Daruwalla, guest writer for Nancy Hayssen.com

Yes I know, there is no such word as ‘curvifier’, but isn’t that basically what corsets used to do (or still do)? The minute you say the word corset what immediately comes to mind is the scene from Gone with the Wind where the nanny is tightening the stays to Scarlett’s corset trying to make her already hourglass figure even more hourglass like!

Mood Enhancing Smells

by Reena Daruwalla, guest writer for Nancy Hayssen.com

We have touched on mood enhancing colors, food, sounds and touch before; our sense of smell can equally as well enhance our mood and be used as therapy to cure ailments. In fact aromatherapy has long been viewed as a very effective treatment for not only physical but also emotional and mental problems such as stress etc.

The history of aromatherapy dates back thousands of years before Christ, when the Egyptians burnt incense in the hope that the smoke would carry their wishes and prayers heavenward. The Kama sutra also Continue Reading…

Mood Enhancing Touch

by Reena Daruwalla, guest writer for Nancy Hayssen.com

My sister in law once memorably said, “man has gone up to the moon, but no one thought to invent a caress machine”. Evidently that would have been a far more useful invention than a space ship capable of traveling to the moon!

Touch or our tactile sense is tremendously powerful and able to bring us great pleasure or great disgust. While a lewd stranger’s grope in the dark may cause the sort of revulsion that can mark us almost for life, a light touch from a loved one can have the opposite effect. Continue Reading…

Plus Size Swimwear

by Reena Daruwalla, guest writer for Nancy Hayssen.com

O Magazine, in their June issue featured swim wear from Always For Me, a line of swimwear that can ‘handle the curves’ of real women.

This particular style with a Twist Front Bandeau is designed in a way that enhances the bust and waist, while disguising the tummy and minimizing the hips. It comes in many different colors and for the price of $79 I thought this was a pretty good deal!

Then this design I thought was a very flattering and sexy style for full figured women with its plunging neckline and tummy control and hips minimizing features. To see more styles and designs take a look here. Continue Reading…

Barbie has a lot of Answer for!

http://www.nancyhayssen.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/barbie-stripes-poster-c10088159-150x150.jpgby Reena Daruwalla, guest writer for Nancy Hayssen.com

As a matter of principle my husband and I do not buy our girls Barbie dolls.

One we don’t want to have to buy the bedroom set and the kitchen set and the hundred other sets that go with the doll and secondly because we don’t want them to think that being blond and thin is an ideal to be emulated.

Besides there are several other for useful and skill building toys out there, which are better for them.

Barbie’s vital statistics have been estimated at 36 inches (chest), 18 inches (waist) and 33 inches (hips). If you scaled her up, her legs would be inordinately and disproportionately long. In 1965 Slumber Party Barbie came with a book entitled How to Lose Weight which advised: “Don’t eat.” The doll also came with pink bathroom scales reading 110lb, which would be around 35lbs underweight for a woman 5 feet 9 inches tall. For Your Mind, Body and Spirit…

by Reena Daruwalla, guest writer for Nancy Hayssen.com

I really liked this post that Nancy did a while back about the 39 ways to live a better life in 2008. If of all the 39 I had to pick one that I liked best, I would pick no. 6 : Play more games and read more books than you did in 2007, because by following this faithfully you take care of your physical, mental and spiritual well being!

Putting this into practice can really make a difference in your life. What with work and looking after the kids and home I was really not getting any time to read, or so I thought! So I resolved to take at least some time out for myself everyday and read.
